Coffee Nation

I just found this photo from the recent presidential inauguration! It says many things about our american culture. And renews my zeal for a viable coffee shop here in D-town!

Oh so ready for the weekend!

In my ears: Santogold, Little Joy, The Bird and The Bee, Vampire Weekend

On my bookshelf: Eclipse, and The Practical Guide to Country Living (you're right, I no longer live in the country but I still want to learn how to can my garden produce and I want to keep bees)

In my schedule: file taxes (done!), launch website, work out, go on a date with D (Chinese, which I wish was Thai, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button)

Plans for the weekend: Dad's 56th, laundry, truffle making, curry attempting

On my mind: Summer! Busy planning summit bags (Cloud Peak and Gannet beware), kayak excursions, and random camping trips. Also, busy seed catalog shopping to landscape my yard. The exterior of our house is kind of bright yellow so I'm thinking sunflowers, peonies, and red geraniums! And dreaming about a front porch, kitchen wall extraction, hardwood floor, and new drapes!

Best part of my week: The oh so glorious sunshine!

Most exciting event in the immediate future: D and I are planning on road tripping to Laramie the weekend of 2/21 and 2/22 for the Banff Mountain Film Festival. A side trip to Saratoga is in the mix! Also, Merle Haggard concert with my friend RaeRae.

I'm not a "cry-er" by any means, but as a girl with three brothers I quickly developed the habit of crying alone or crying silently as a means of self-protection from their adolescent mockery. It's strange to me to continue to use this talent as an adult. I'm not sure what part of society enforced message I'm clinging to. Perhaps a hold-over from the feminist movement; of the ultra-strong, I can do anything and feel nothing approach to femininity. Or maybe a reflection of the exaggerated individualism I feel sometimes...the privacy of hiding my emotions versus sharing them.

Regardless, I'm surprised I can lie in my husband's arms and cry while he sleeps. I'm reminded of my fellowman and what we all walk around with on the inside of us. How many times I am quick to judge a friend or strange, not knowing what thoughts and emotions are stewing? Just a reminder to myself to reside in grace, with myself and with others.

Puerto Vallarta

I loved the city, the people, the pace of life! What a fascinating culture and city, I can't wait to go back and explore it in-depth!

Honeymoon

It was a beautiful week of laying on the beach, playing in the surf, drinking our way through the exotic drink menu, exploring Puerto Vallarta, eating too much delicious mexican food, riding zip-lines, and hanging out with each other. Which was actually my favorite bit! <3
